Campaign Story
What is Die Wurzel?
Die Wurzel is not merely an art event, but a five-year cultural pilgrimage. Its purpose is to heal global division and to nurture the roots of culture through art, dialogue, and collective participation. Each year presents different formats: Salons (intimate gatherings), Museum Forums (institutional dialogues), and Exhibitions (large-scale participatory expos).
Who is behind the project?
The initiative is led by Spiritum, an international cultural organisation whose core competence is what we call overwhelming affirmativeness: an ethos that embraces diversity, fairness, and openness. Spiritum works with artists, scholars, citizens, and supporters from across the world.
Why does it matter?
We live in an age of fragmentation — across nations, generations, and values. Die Wurzel responds to this by creating shared spaces of resonance. Through dialogue and creative practice, the project seeks to overcome division and cultivate a cultural foundation that will outlast our time.
Where will it take place?
Events will be held across Europe in cities such as Zurich, Vaduz, Vienna, Amsterdam, Leipzig, Bern, Lucerne, and Munich, making the project both transnational and inclusive.
When will it happen?
From 2026 to 2030, the project will unfold:
-
2026–2029: Salons, Museum Forums, and medium-sized Exhibitions each year
-
2030: The final large-scale Exhibition/EXPO, expected to welcome one million visitors
How will it be realised?
The project is structured around three core ideals:
-
Re-Creation: reviving and reimagining traditions in contemporary forms
-
Beyond Dimensions: connecting arts, cultures, regions, and generations
-
Respect the Origins: honouring the roots of culture as sources of future creation
Funding will be secured through crowdfunding, sponsorship, and the establishment of the Resonanzhalle Foundation. Every supporter will have the chance to vote for venues, artists, and programme choices, ensuring fairness and openness.
How much will it cost?
The five-year journey is projected at approximately CHF 18 million, with the majority allocated to the final EXPO in 2030. Crowdfunding contributions are vital to support artist travel, jury participation, and the digital-physical hybrid infrastructure.
The Destination: Resonanzhalle Luzern
The culmination of this pilgrimage is the creation of the Resonanzhalle Luzern (響明館) — the Hall of Resonance. More than a building, it will be a cultural sanctuary where art, science, spirituality, and scholarship converge, offering future generations a place of enduring dialogue and harmony.
